Mijn lievelingsbestemming om eens een citytrip te maken is Parijs, dé Lichtstad, stad van zoveel schoonheid, talloze bezienswaardigheden, bruisende wijken, pittoreske pleintjes, gezellige cafes, bars en heerlijke restaurants, om dan nog maar te zwijgen van de vaak bijzonder charmante hotels in Parijs!

Belgium: A country to visit

Belgium, home of the European Capital

The country famous for its Belgian fries, chocolate and beers. Now home of the European Capital Brussels. This country has a lot to offer to any visitor. Belgium is dividef into 2 major parts, french and flemish. The coastal region and and all major historic cities are situated in the flemish part of Belgium. The ardennes on the ohter hand and the beautiful nature Belgium has to offer are completely french-speaking territory.

The most important cities in Belgium are without questioning: Bruges
, Brussels and Antwerp. Of course Belgium offers a lot more than just these few cities. Less known amongst tourists but certainly worth the trip are Knokke and Ostend( during summer time), Ghent, a bustling city in the middle of Flanders, Bastogne and Dinant in the Ardennes and if you are a fan of cycling, a trip to the province of Limburg can be most promising.

Brussels: The European Capital

Who has not yet heard of this marvellous city at 20km from the sea. Bruges has a name which is not easily forgotten, certainly not for someone who has visited this city and wandered around in the curling alleys. This city is all about the world's history. The entire inner city was declared Word Heritage by the Unesco.

During the middle ages Bruges gave birth to the concept of modern banking and modern trade. Historic facts most people don't know. The canals through Bruges were once the the blood of the beating heart of the world's leading tradepower. Bruges is a city which you should visit at least once. The charm and romance found in this European city will easily charm you. Staying in a hôtel à Bruxelles will please anyone, that's for sure! If you look for it online, on websites such as BookYourHotel.org, you will be ably to enjoy many hotelspecials in Brussels, have a look and save money on your city trip!

Of course in such a city it is difficult to know what to visit first so i have pointed out a few important places:

The basilic of the holy blood : They have a relic containing Christ's Blood. It is on display every day and absolute worth visiting. The basilic itself is a very old roman church unique in Flanders

The famous belfry which you should be climbed all the way to the top. At clear weather the towers of Ghent maybe even Antwerp and a major part of the coast can be seen from up there

A little well known are the diamond museum, the chocolate museum and the lamp musuem (Lumina Domestica). But they are certainly worth a visit

The cathedral of our Lady with the famous work of Michelangelo (Madonna with child) and the graves of Maria of Burgundy and her husband

Brugge, het Venetië van het Noorden, prachtige middeleeuwse en bovenal volstrekt unieke stad. Ik voel me wel een beetje stom dat ik hier niet langer kan blijven, de stad is werkelijk wondermooi. Deze middag snel nog door het historisch centrum gewandeld en via het Minnewaterpark teruggekeerd naar mijn Egmond Hotel. Het kader van dit hotel in Brugge hier is echt enig. Jammer dat ik niet wat langer kan blijven!

Een halfuurtje treinen vanuit Brugge ligt Gent, stad aan de Leie en woonplaats van menig student. Op weg van het station naar mijn hotel in Ghent kwam ik dan ook veel jong volk tegen. De stad bruist echt overal waar je gaat en is op vele plaatsen even betoverend dan Brugge. Nu nog hopen dat de hotels in gent van eenzelfde niveau zijn!

Goed geslapen in mijn Gents hotel maar vandaag alweer richting de officieuze hoofdstad van Vlaanderen, Antwerpen vertrokken. Ik verheugde me echt op een verblijf in de Modestad en ben volgens plan zowel langs de Meir, de Keyserlei als de Kammenstraat gestapt om eens uitgebreid te shoppen. Veel tijd voor de meer historische bezienswaardigheden had ik niet, het Arass Suite Hotel wachtte immers op me. Dit Antwerp hotel biedt allesbehalve standaardkamers aan en is wat de inrichting betreft een ware streling voor het oog. Hier zou ik gerust nog een paar nachten langer in dit hotel in Antwerpen kunnen blijven, maar helaas rond ik morgen al mijn tiendaagse af met een overnachting in een hotel Brussels. Last, but hopefully not least!

Zonet aangekomen in mijn hotel in Brussel, het mooi ogende Hotel Van Belle, dat ik er vooral omwille van haar authentiek Brussels karakter had uitgekozen. Straks een maaltijd nuttigen in één van de restaurants hier, heel misschien verken ik daarna even het Brusselse nachtleven maar ik dank dat het vooral bij mijmeren over de voorbije tien dagen zal blijven. Gisteren besloten dan toch niet uit te gaan, was nogal moe en de lange tocht langs verschillende hotels in België was duidelijk in m'n kleren gekropen. Ben moe maar voldaan en ik zou iedereen aanraden om dit ook eens te doen. België heeft immers zoveel te bieden!

Ik kreeg van een toeristische website de opdracht om op verschillende plaatsen telkes een paar dagen in verschillende hotels te verblijven, om nadien een overzichtje te kunnen makan van mijn wedervaren. En zo gebeurde het, een paar weken geleden startte ik met mijn eerste hotel aan de kust, waar ik een paar dagen zal verblijven, om nadien door te reizen naar Brugge en Gent, en tenslotte te eindigen in Antwerpen en Brussel.

Dromen zijn er om waar te maken, en ik ben er dan ook vandaag mee begonnen, meer bepaald in de westelijk uithoek van het land, De Panne. Uit alle hotels in De Panne koos ik er eentje die me op het eerste zicht een modern hotel lijhkt, zeer rustig gelegen en bovendien op nog geen 300 meter van het kilometerlange strand gelegen. Ik kijk al uit naar vannacht en de komende 10 dagen!

Vanochtend verliet ik De Panne en zette ik mijn tocht verder. Vrijwel meteen vond ik eenhotel in Nieuwpoort die aan mijn wensen voldeed, nl. Hotel Cosmopolite, nabij de zee, de pier en de haven en in vergelijking met andere hotels in Nieuwpoort dichtbij de belangrijkste winkelstraat. Deze avond een wandeling langs de jachthaven gemaakt, werkelijk verbluffend!

België telt voor de gemiddelde toerist ontzettend veel mogelijkheden. Er zijn de historische steden als Brugge, Gent, Antwerpen en Brussel. Er zijn de kleinere centrumsteden waar je heerlijk kunt logeren, zoals bijvoorbeeld in een hotel in Kortrijk of in een hotel in Hasselt. Daarnaast zijn er ook de prachtige badsteden, ikzelf opteer meestal voor een verblijf van een paar nachten in een hotel in Nieuwpoort hoewel ook mijn vorige vakantie in een van de goedkope hotels in Oostende bijzonder aangenaam was.

Eventjes over de grens verbleef ik al in een hotel in Vlissingen, in het prachtige Zeeland. Heerlijk lange fietstochten gemaakt daar, onvergetelijk mooi en vooral rustig landschap. Er zijn wel meer hotels Zeeland die mijn voorkeur wegdragen maar daar heb ik het de volgende keer wel over.

Zoals ik al zei kom ik weleens in een hotel in Ostend, de enige echte Koningin der badsteden maar voor mij persoonlijk iets te (groot)stedelijk, vooral in de zomer is het er druk en zwelt het inwonersaantal aan tot zo maar eventjes 300.000, waardoor Oostende te kampen krijgt met alle grootstedelijke problematiek zoals bijvoorbeeld Antwerpen of Brussel.

Heel wat rustiger gaat het er aan toe in een hotel in Ieper, niet zo gek ver van dat leuke hotel in Koksijde waar ik mijn vrouw heb leren kennen. Wanneer ik nog eens de behoefte vol om de Zwinneblomme in haar volle glorie te aanschouwen, zo rond de periode juli-augustus, verdwijn ik altijd voor een paar nachten in een hotel in Knokke, met voorsprong de meest mondaine badstad aan de Belgische Kust.

Accmodation in Belgium is numerous, it is easy to book hotels online in Belgium at the last moment. I will highlight the most important cities in Belgium to visit and maybe a few which are not so well known amongst foreign visitors but are certainly worth the trip. The most famous cities are of course Bruges, Brussels, Antwerp and Ostend, so I will start with a short introduction to these cities in particular.

Have fun in Belgium and like I said don't forget to try out our beers. ( "they are famous for a reason!")

Bruges, the world's history

Who hasn't heard of this marvellous city. Bruges has a name which is not easily forgotten, certainly not for someone who has visited this city and wandered around in the curling alleys. This city is all about world's history. The concept of banking and stockmarket were born in this city. Facts most people never knew. The canals through Bruges remind of a time were all trade and commerce was dependant upon waterways. The Unesco placed the entire innercity on the list of world heritage and with good reason. Bruges is a must see during your lifetime. The most romantic city of Europe will easily charm you. Trust me and try it.

Of course in such a city it is difficult to know what to visit first so i have pointed out a few important places.

Bruges is also enourmously rich on hotels and restaurants. The choice is overwhelming which makes it difficult to decide on your hotel aswell as your place for dinner.

Hotels come in all sizes and shapes. Luxurious expensive hotels aswell as small very charming familyhotels which make out the biggest part of hotels in Bruges and most certainly are preferred. (By me anyway). I give you a few hotels in Bruges which are my personal favorites.
The Pand hotel in Bruges is a very luxurious charmant and cosy hotel but ofcourse has a priceticket to it. If that is not a problem than is the Pand Hotel an absolute preferred choice. Hotel Walwyck is a fairly new hotel and just renovated, has a better price and is located very calmly in the heart of Bruges, Hotel Walwyck is most definitely worth a visit. Hotel Het Gheestelic Hof is situated in the centre of Bruges near the Market Square in a old mansion. Good price/quality.

Restaurant are even more numerous than hotels in this city. I have visited quite some and these are thé restaurants i personally preferred. Restaurant Aneth, Restaurant Arthies and Restaurant Curiosa.

From Bruges it is easy to visit some other cities worth visiting like. Knokke-Heist, Ostend, Ghent, Antwerp and Brussels

Brussels, the European Capital

Brussels , capital of the European Union and that is absolutely noticeable. The European Quarter takes a more and more important place in this city. A place apart that is what Brussels is if you ask the locals. There are numerous hotels in Brussels but not all in the same quality range. Much depends on how much you are willing to spend, it is easy to find a hotel which is perfect for your budget.
Some must knows about Brussels and its reachability:

Public transportation to the airport:

Trains: You can catch a train in Brussels South, North or Central . Every 15 minutes you will have a train leaving to the National Airport. It takes about 15-20 minutes to arrive. The station in Brussels National Airport is situated beneath the arrival and departure halls. So from the train it will take no more than 5 minutes to reach the main hall.
Car: Risky but managable on certain hours of the day. From the inner city it normally should not take more than 30 minutes to reach the airport but rush hour can be a bit troubeling.
Metro: you have to take the train to the airport but the city metro stops close to all three major trainstations in Brussels.

Distance to other cities who are definitely worth visiting: Bruges (1h in train), Ghent (30min in train), Anwerp (40 min in train ) and perhaps the seaside Ostend (1.30 form Brussels in train ).

If you are looking for a hotel in Brussels prices can sometimes be a little bit expensives that is why it can be an idea to spend your holiday in a hotel in Bruges as base. Bruges is certainly worth the while to stay.
In Brussels are major hotelchains have a few hotels over there like Sheraton hotels , Eurostars hotels, HUSA hoteles, ...
Here we give you some examples of fine hotels in the city center of Brussels

The amount of hotels is enormous but here are my personal favourites: Hotel Belmont in Brussels is a smaller hotel but also with smaller prices which makes Hotel Belmont a very luxurious budget hotel. Hotel Le Plaza is a luxurious 5 star hotel with excellent service but of course also in the higher price range. If money is not a problem than hotel le Plaza is your place to stay.

Of course Brussels can not be described in a few words, one should most definitely visit this beautiful city.
